Police officers use of social media, including platforms like TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, has been banned by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The decision was made after several videos of officers and female personnel went viral online, raising concerns over inappropriate behavior while in uniform.
The ban aims to curb inappropriate usage of social media by on-duty personnel and to maintain professional discipline. The Punjab government has emphasized that police officers’ use of social media during official hours undermines the integrity of the police force.
To enforce this, the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police has implemented a comprehensive social media usage policy for police officers and personnel, outlining clear guidelines on acceptable online behavior.
As part of this policy, strict departmental action will be taken against any officer or personnel found uploading content in uniform. The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Operations has further reinforced these regulations, mandating that any social media activity by police officers must be pre-approved by the District Police Officer (DPO) or unit head.

In addition, police officers and personnel are prohibited from sharing personal, political, or religious views on social media platforms. All official communication will be handled solely through channels managed by the DPO or relevant unit heads. The policy also stipulates that no private individuals are allowed to use police vehicles or offices for social media activities.

Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and unit heads across Punjab will be held accountable for enforcing these guidelines, ensuring that the professional conduct of police officers is maintained both online and offline.
