Imran Khan Rejects Ties with Israel, Calls it a Propaganda Campaign

Former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan rejects ties with Israel, addressing allegations that he supports establishing relations with the country. During a media briefing at Adiala Jail, Imran Khan accused his detractors of twisting the narrative based on a recent article from an Israeli newspaper.

Imran Khan, who is grappling with several legal challenges while incarcerated, described the claims as part of a “propaganda campaign.” There has been a propaganda blitz, citing an Israeli newspaper that I am the biggest advocate for relations with Israel. “These claims are absurd. The article did mention me, but clearly, some people do not understand English.”

The article from The Jerusalem Post speculated on Imran Khan’s influence in both the Muslim world and the West, discussing how a leader like him could impact Pakistan’s foreign policy, particularly concerning Israel. However, Imran Khan swiftly clarified that his position remains steadfastly pro-Palestinian. “My stance on Israel has not changed. The Palestinian people are enduring genocide. Any discussions with Israel are contingent upon a ceasefire and a genuine commitment to a two-state solution,” he asserted, emphasizing that he rejects ties with Israel.

Imran Khan’s comments occur amid a turbulent political landscape in Pakistan. In response to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent call for unity and cooperation for national development, Imran Khan issued a strong counterstatement. “Shehbaz Sharif, listen carefully: peace is a by-product of justice,” he declared. “The elections were blatantly rigged, PTI workers were thrown in jail after the May 9 events, and yet no serious investigations are underway. Without justice, there can be no peace.”

He also criticized proposed constitutional amendments, arguing they would further undermine peace and stability. Imran Khan accused the chief justice and chief election commissioner of exceeding their authority, likening them to “umpires who are also opening batsmen,” implying a lack of impartiality in the judiciary and election processes.

“The third umpire, who is essentially the captain of their team, is orchestrating everything from behind the scenes,” he alleged, referring to what he sees as covert manipulation of the political process. He voiced serious concerns over alleged electoral fraud and the withholding of CCTV footage from the May 9 events, which he believes is being used to shield the establishment.

Drawing parallels with General Yahya Khan’s regime, Imran Khan accused the current government of dismantling democracy and societal integrity to cover up electoral misconduct. “This group is leading the country toward a crisis similar to that of Yahya Khan’s era. Economic instability is increasing, debt is piling up, and investors are reluctant to engage. People are leaving the country in droves,” Imran Khan warned.

Despite significant obstacles, including delayed rally permissions and mass arrests of PTI supporters, Khan expressed confidence in his party’s ability to mobilize substantial crowds. He cited a recent rally in Lahore, where permissions were granted only a day in advance, yet his supporters turned out in droves, despite roadblocks.

“Our rallies are not about free food. People come on foot, driven by a cause,” Imran Khan said, referencing claims that rival parties use incentives to attract attendees. He also revealed that orders had been issued to detain 500 PTI workers ahead of the Lahore rally, yet the event proceeded, demonstrating the resilience of his supporters.

Imran Khan announced plans for another rally in Rawalpindi next week, instructing his party to seek legal permissions from the high court. He warned that if permission is denied, the party would resort to protests.

“They want to dismantle the judiciary and impose an undeclared martial law. But we will not back down. If they proceed with these amendments, we will start a street movement against them,” Imran Khan vowed.
