Chinese Electric Vehicle – EV Manufacturer BYD has announced plans to establish a car production plant in Pakistan, marking its entry into the country’s growing automotive market. As part of this initiative, BYD will introduce three vehicle models through a strategic partnership with Mega Motors, a subsidiary of Hub Power Co Ltd (HPWR.PSX), Pakistan’s largest private utility company known as Hubco.
EV Manufacturer BYD is set to become the first major new electric vehicle (NEV) player in Pakistan, a market currently lacking adequate charging infrastructure. Speaking at a launch event in Lahore, Liu Xueliang, BYD’s General Manager for Asia Pacific, emphasized the company’s broader mission beyond vehicle sales. “Our entry into the Pakistani market is not just about bringing advanced vehicles to consumers,” Liu Xueliang said. “It’s about driving a broader vision of environmental responsibility and technological innovation.”
BYD has ambitious plans to open three flagship stores and experience centers in major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. The company aims to launch two SUV models and a sedan in the fourth quarter of 2024, targeting a diverse consumer base eager for sustainable transportation options.
Kamran Kamal, Chief Executive of Hubco, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, describing it as a “landmark investment” for Pakistan. “We will open Pakistan’s first NEV car production plant, dedicated to producing BYD’s cutting-edge new energy vehicles,” Kamran Kamal said. The plant is expected to begin operations in 2026, positioning BYD as a leading EV manufacturer in the region.

To support BYD’s growth and address Pakistan’s charging infrastructure gap, Hubco plans to set up fast-charging stations across major cities, motorways, and highways. This expansion aligns with BYD’s commitment to driving sustainable mobility solutions in new markets and underscores its role as a pioneering EV manufacturer dedicated to fostering environmental stewardship and innovation.
