Pakistan & China Universities to Exchange Germplasm & Bio-Health Agriculture Technology

Northwest A & F University (NWAFU) of China, in a bid to exchange germplasm resources, has partnered with the Ayub Agricultural Research Institute (AARI) of Punjab, Pakistan, and China Machinery Engineering Co Ltd (CMEC) to advance a strategic collaboration focused on modern bio-health agricultural technologies.

This collaborative effort is poised to significantly enhance scientific research and foster stronger ties between the two nations. During a late August 2024 meeting at NWAFU, representatives from the involved institutions committed to advancing new agricultural technologies, promoting emerging agricultural industries, and boosting overall productivity. A key focus of this partnership is on cultivating essential crops like sesame and pepper.

The initiative has already seen success in Punjab, where demonstration model fields have been established to showcase the cultivation of organic agricultural products. Building on this momentum, the collaboration will now extend to talent development and technical training at all levels, aiming to nurture high-quality undergraduate students and vocational agricultural industry operators.

Furthermore, the partnership will involve the identification of key agricultural products for trade, supporting leading enterprises in relevant activities, and promoting the growth of China-Pakistan demonstration parks. Additionally, the collaboration will facilitate short-term exchanges and training for Pakistani agricultural experts, while also promoting agricultural technology within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
