In a significant move for the Organ Donation Initiative, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a national program that will include a special logo for voluntary organ donors on National Identity Cards. During a message marking International Identity Day, he stated, “Individuals who voluntarily register as organ donors will receive a unique logo on their National Identity Cards, symbolizing their commitment to the gift of life.”
The Prime Minister highlighted that organ donation represents a profound act of kindness, offering a new lease on life to those in desperate need. “I encourage all citizens to participate in this initiative and join a life-saving community,” he urged.
As the nation commemorates International Identity Day, the Prime Minister reflected on the importance of identity in society, emphasizing that it is not just about recognition but also about inclusion, representation, and access to essential services. He called for collective efforts to build a more inclusive world where every individual’s rights are acknowledged and respected.
Furthermore, PM Shehbaz Sharif urged citizens, civil society, and governmental institutions to unite in fostering awareness and education regarding identity issues. He stressed the necessity of identifying and addressing gaps in the current national registration and biometric systems. The integration of digital solutions and innovation was also encouraged to streamline access to services and enhance identity verification accuracy.
“As we embark on these initiatives, my government is committed to implementing policies that promote transparency and accountability, fostering trust among citizens and encouraging greater civic participation, thereby strengthening the democratic fabric of our nation,” he added.
In a separate statement, the Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to ozone layer preservation on World Ozone Day. He emphasized the vital role of global collaboration in tackling ozone depletion and recognized Pakistan’s contributions to international efforts. Addressing the damage caused by human activities, he expressed concern over the ozone layer’s depletion, which has led to the formation of the ozone hole, posing severe risks to life on Earth.

PM Shehbaz Sharif praised global initiatives like the United Nations Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol, which have facilitated the recovery of the ozone layer. He noted that Pakistan has been an active participant in these UN agreements, having ratified the Montreal Protocol in 1992 and made considerable progress in phasing out ozone-depleting substances (ODS).
