PM Shehbaz Sharif Orders Strict Action to Combat Power Sector Corruption

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Orders Strict Action to Combat Power Sector Corruption, reducing line losses, and enhancing the power distribution system across the county.

During a meeting to assess the power ministry’s performance, PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that new board chairpersons and members had been appointed to five distribution companies through a transparent process. He expressed hope that these changes would lead to significant improvements in Disco performance.

The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the power minister and secretary to collaborate with provincial authorities to implement measures aimed at curbing electricity theft and improving Disco efficiency. “A comprehensive government approach is essential to fight power theft across the country,” he stated, urging provincial governments to adjust police and tehsildar deployment according to Disco requirements.

This directive follows PML-N President Nawaz Sharif’s recent announcement of a Rs 14 per unit reduction in electricity bills for Punjab residents consuming 200-500 units, valid for two months.

PM Shehbaz Sharif also ordered stern action against corrupt elements within Discos and called for more effective and responsive kutchehri systems to address public complaints. He instructed the steering committee on switching agricultural tube-wells to solar energy in Balochistan to convene immediately, noting that standard operating procedures for this transition had already been issued.

Additionally, a performance recognition package for officers demonstrating exceptional work is being prepared, the meeting was informed.
