Traffic Plan for SCO Summit 2024 Announced By Islamabad Authorities

In anticipation of the Traffic Plan for SCO Summit 2024, a three-day traffic diversion plan has been rolled out in Islamabad ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. From October 14 to 16, 2024 heavy traffic will be strictly prohibited from entering the capital, ensuring smooth mobility for participants and delegates of the summit.

As part of the Traffic Plan for SCO Summit 2024, more than 1,100 traffic police officers and personnel will be stationed across the city to manage the flow of vehicles. Residents are advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays and congestion during this period. Authorities have released specific route recommendations for travelers to ensure a hassle-free commute.

For those traveling from Peshawar to Rawat via GT Road, the advised routes include Taxila, Motorway, Chakri Interchange, and Chak Beli Road. Similarly, travelers from Lahore to Peshawar are encouraged to take the Rawat, Chak Beli Road, Chakri Interchange, Motorway, and Taxila routes.

Motorists heading from Margalla Road to Rawalpindi should use Ninth Avenue, while traffic from Faisal Avenue to Zero Point will be redirected toward Ninth Avenue. Those traveling from Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi are advised to take Korang Road and Lehtarar Road from Bani Gala.

The Traffic Plan for SCO Summit 2024 also specifies that vehicles coming from Rawalpindi to Islamabad via President Murree Road should utilize Ninth Avenue. Traffic from Zero Point to Faisal Avenue heading toward Korang Chowk will be restricted. Moreover, those traveling from Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed Road to Faizabad should take the Stadium Road via Ninth Avenue.

Heavy traffic from Peshawar to Lahore is advised to use the Taxila, Motorway, and Tarnol Interchange routes, while those coming from Lahore GT Road to Islamabad and Rawalpindi should take Chak Beli Road, Chakri Interchange, and Motorway.

In addition to ground measures, air surveillance will be in place during the summit, and mobile services may be suspended in specific areas to enhance security.

Rawalpindi’s Traffic Strategy for SCO Summit

The Rawalpindi City Traffic Police has also introduced a special traffic plan for the SCO Summit 2024. As per the strategy, 622 traffic officers and personnel, including 13 DSPs, 73 senior traffic wardens, and 536 traffic wardens and assistants, will be deployed across the city. Chief Traffic Officer Benish Fatima has instructed the implementation of this plan from October 14 to 16. During these three days, heavy traffic will be completely barred from entering Rawalpindi.

This comprehensive traffic management plan aims to ensure the smooth movement of summit delegations and minimize disruption for local residents.
