Iran Offers Technological Collaboration to Pakistan

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, during his recent visit to Lahore and Karachi, expressed Iran’s readiness to share its advancements in industry, science, and technology with Pakistan. President Raisi, addressing a gathering at Chief Minister House, highlighted the potential for technological collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two nations.

Speaking on enhancing bilateral trade, Raisi affirmed the commitment of both governments to facilitate trade expansion, aiming to boost annual trade volume to $10 billion over the next five years. He emphasized the resilience of historical ties between Iran and Pakistan, underscoring the importance of a robust trade partnership in strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors.

However, Raisi’s visit disrupted routine life in Karachi, with stringent security measures causing closures of major roads, suspension of cellular services, and disruptions to business activities. The extensive security arrangements, including deployment of thousands of police and Rangers personnel, aimed to ensure the safety of the visiting dignitary and maintain peace and tranquility in the city.

Prior to his arrival in Karachi, President Raisi visited Lahore, where he praised the cultural richness of the provincial capital and expressed a desire for increased people-to-people contacts between Iran and Pakistan. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the potential for collaboration in industry and agriculture to alleviate poverty and stimulate economic growth.

During his brief stay in Lahore, President Raisi paid homage to Allama Iqbal and engaged in discussions on economic cooperation and mutual investment opportunities. Despite logistical constraints, Raisi conveyed his regards to the people of Pakistan and Lahore, recognizing the enduring bond between the two nations and acknowledging Allama Iqbal’s profound influence.
