Scott Urbom arrives in Karachi with a robust background in international relations. His most recent position was as the office director in the Department of State’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, where he managed bilateral relations with various countries in this vital region. This experience equips him well for his new role as US Consul General, as he aims to enhance collaboration between the two nations.
His impressive career also includes key positions such as deputy director of the Office of Korean Affairs and deputy political chief at the American Institute in Taiwan. Additionally, he served as the DPRK Unit Chief in the Office of Korean Affairs. Scott Urbom’s diverse foreign assignments have taken him to several countries, including Beijing, China; Bridgetown, Barbados; and Kyiv, Ukraine, enriching his understanding of global diplomacy. His extensive experience in these roles positions him well to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the US Consul General.

Before joining the Foreign Service, Scott Urbom made a significant impact in global education as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kazakhstan, where he taught English. He holds a degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and has earned master’s degrees from both Harvard University and the National War College.
As he begins his tenure as US Consul General, Scott Urbom is poised to commemorate the 77th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States and Pakistan.
