Pakistan Advocates for Joint Action Against Global Drug Abuse at UN Event

Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to intensify efforts against Global Drug Abuse, striving for a drug-free world.

“Our efforts must be focused on addressing and countering all aspects of the world drug problem – from illicit cultivation to reducing demand,” stated Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s deputy permanent representative to the UN, at a UN side-event dedicated to tackling the global drug problem.

The event, held at the UN headquarters, was co-hosted by several nations, including Pakistan, Russia, China, and Egypt, alongside the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Ambassador Jadoon highlighted that the Global Drug Abuse issue continues to pose a serious global challenge, affecting health, safety, security, and socio-economic development. He emphasized that collective action is needed to mitigate the devastating effects of the world drug crisis.

“Pakistan is fully committed to addressing this issue through joint efforts based on shared responsibility,” he stated, underscoring Pakistan’s comprehensive approach to tackle Global Drug Abuse. The country is actively pursuing a zero-tolerance policy toward illicit drugs as part of its counter-narcotics strategy.

Despite limited resources, Pakistan is playing a leading role in combating drug trafficking and abuse, standing at the frontline of efforts to control the spread of opiates and synthetic drugs originating from the region.

Ambassador Jadoon reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with the international community, aiming to safeguard society from the harmful impacts of illicit drugs.
