Balochistan to Become Richest Province by 2040: Ahsan Iqbal

Minister for Planning, Development, Ahsan Iqbal expressed his strong belief that Balochistan to become richest province in Pakistan within the next 15 to 20 years. He attributed this future prosperity to the province’s vast untapped potential and the federal government’s ongoing development efforts.

Speaking at the launch of the book Mir Hazar Khan Marri – Mazahmat Say Mufahamat Tak (From Resistance to Reconciliation), Ahsan Iqbal highlighted the government’s substantial investment in Balochistan, noting that Rs130 billion has been allocated for its development this year—almost double the amount set aside for Punjab, and higher than any other province. This allocation is part of the government’s strategy to ensure that Balochistan becomes the richest province in the country.

The book, written by Ammar Masood and researched by Khalid Farid, chronicles the life and struggle of Mir Hazar Khan Marri, a prominent Baloch leader who fought against conspiracies targeting Pakistan. Ahsan Iqbal commended Hazar Khan Marri for his leadership and contributions to educating the Baloch youth about the challenges posed by Pakistan’s adversaries. He praised Hazar Khan Marri’s role in guiding the province towards reconciliation and unity.

Professor Ahsan Iqbal emphasized that Pakistan, while a relatively young country at 77 years, is navigating growing pains. However, its strategic location, especially Balochistan’s crucial geostrategic position, has long drawn the attention of global powers. He mentioned that had Balochistan not been part of Pakistan, the province could be facing instability similar to that of Afghanistan.

Highlighting the region’s security, Ahsan Iqbal reassured that as the first Islamic nuclear state, Pakistan is safe from external threats. However, he warned that anti-state elements continue to mislead Balochistan’s youth, promoting their own agendas. Despite this, he reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to ensuring Balochistan becomes the richest province, addressing its economic needs and sense of deprivation.
