IESCO to Install ‘AMI Meters’ in Rawalpindi in Next Phase

The AMI meters project is transforming in Pakistan’s power sector. According to Mohsin Raza Gallani, Director of the AMI Project, the initiative has seen successful implementation in Rawalpindi City and Rawalpindi Cantonment under Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco). Over 110,000 outdated meters have already been replaced with AMI meters, with projections aiming for complete upgrades by 2026 across Rawalpindi, Taxila, and surrounding areas.

Mohsin Raza Gallani shared that Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)  meters are also being installed in industrial areas and on feeders with high loss rates. This technology promises numerous benefits, including uninterrupted power supply. AMI meters help reduce line losses and minimize power theft.

Key advantages of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters include accurate and timely meter readings, enhanced grid management, real-time consumption monitoring, and improved customer service.

Mohsin Raza Gallani emphasized that Iesco is the first power distribution company in Pakistan to adopt this cutting-edge technology. An awareness campaign has also been launched to educate consumers about the benefits of AMI meters, with international experts ensuring the project’s success.
