Pakistan Third Largest Sesame Exporter has emerged as a pivotal player in the global agricultural market, achieving annual sesame exports exceeding $1 billion. This landmark achievement highlights the country’s growing prominence and its potential to reshape the national economy.
Pakistan Third Largest Sesame Exporter: Progress and Potential
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain underscored the immense value of sesame as a high-potential cash crop during the international sesame investment conference in Islamabad. The minister highlighted that sesame’s success reflects its transformative role in bolstering Pakistan’s economy, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing production and expanding access to global markets.
Over the past five years, Pakistan’s sesame industry has witnessed unprecedented growth. Annual sesame production surged by an astounding 455%, reaching 1.119 million tons. Similarly, export volumes grew by 327% to 0.760 million tons annually, while export value skyrocketed by 366%, reaching $1.073 billion. These achievements have secured Pakistan’s position as the third-largest sesame exporter globally.
Strategic Measures Driving Success
The minister credited this remarkable progress to the strategic inclusion of sesame in the National Oilseeds Enhancement Program (NOEP) and the effective collaboration between federal and provincial agriculture departments. “Sesame has evolved from a neglected crop into a vital economic contributor,” stated Minister Hussain.
To sustain and build upon these accomplishments, stakeholders have been urged to focus on adopting advanced processing technologies, adding value to sesame products, and tapping into new international markets. These measures aim to strengthen the industry’s global standing while supporting economic growth.
Government’s Vision for the Sesame Industry
The government’s proactive stance includes mobilizing the Ministry of Commerce to actively promote Pakistani sesame products on the international stage. This initiative is expected to further position Pakistan as the third-largest sesame exporter and reduce dependence on edible oil imports, thereby enhancing the agricultural sector’s economic contributions.
“Sesame’s success underscores its transformative role in Pakistan’s economy,” remarked Minister Hussain, envisioning a future where sesame plays a central role in the country’s agricultural and economic prosperity.
With continuous efforts and strategic planning, Pakistan Third Largest Sesame Exporter is set to maintain its upward trajectory, solidifying its position as a leader in the global sesame trade.
