WhatsApp is rolling out an exciting new feature as part of the WhatsApp Beta for Mac 24.19.71 update, enabling users to access and follow channels directly from their Mac, according to WABetaInfo. This update enhances the experience for Mac users, offering them seamless access to WhatsApp’s latest features.
In this recent WhatsApp Beta for Mac release, users can now view channels directly from the “Status” tab, which has been renamed to “Updates.” This allows users to access both status updates and channels from the Mac Catalyst app, making the app more versatile and user-friendly.
Previously, channel updates were limited to notifications, and users couldn’t fully view them due to a lack of comprehensive support. This issue is now addressed with the latest update.
Additionally, WhatsApp is transitioning channel access from the older Mac Electron app to the newer Mac Catalyst app, as the Electron version will be phased out next month. With this transition, users can not only view but also follow their favorite channels and explore the directory of channels, which can now be filtered by country and category.
This directory allows users to discover content that matches their interests, without needing to switch to the mobile app, making the desktop experience more immersive. Although this new feature is part of the WhatsApp Beta for Mac version, it’s important to note that channels may not be fully synced with the mobile app yet.
Channels followed on the mobile app might not immediately appear on the desktop version, requiring users to re-follow them. Similarly, channel owners may encounter temporary issues when trying to post updates within their channels from the mobile app if they are also following the channels from the Mac Catalyst app.

Since this is a beta release, users may encounter such bugs, but WhatsApp is expected to fix them in future updates. Currently, this feature is available to select beta testers and will gradually roll out to a wider audience in the coming days, further improving the experience of WhatsApp Beta for Mac users.
